More Tips If Your iPod Does Not Turn On

  • Make sure that your iPod isn't on 'Hold'…Check the 'Hold' switch and make sure that it isn't set to the 'Hold' position…if you see any colour, your 'Hold' switch is engaged. You might also try toggling the switch to the 'Hold' position, switch it back off, and then try turning it on.

    iPod hold switch

  • Make sure that your battery is charged…Your iPod won't turn on if the battery is depleted. Instead, a low battery screen may appear for about 3 seconds when you try to turn it on. To charge it, connect it to a high-powered USB 2.0 or FireWire port on your computer, or to an Apple iPod Power Adapter that's connected to an electrical outlet, using the cable that came with it.

    Full iPod battery

  • If your iPod still won't turn on, reset it…Press ‘Menu’ and ‘Select’ buttons for six seconds until the Apple logo appears. When you reset your iPod, all of your songs and files are preserved, however, you may need to reset some customized settings.
  • Let your iPod battery drain…In rare cases, your iPod might get into a state in which the battery needs to be drained completely before you can reset it.
