So your kids all have iPods on their list this year, but you don't know the first thing about them.
It's easy to get confused with all the different types of iPods available today.
So here's an iPod guide to help you shuffle through the different models... little iPod joke there... and find the perfect iPod for your child.
What exactly is an iPod?
First let me update you on what exactly an iPod is.
An iPod is a small portable music player that holds a large amount of songs, which you download from your computer.
iPods are all small and lightweight, and you listen to them with earphones.
This tiny but powerful player, that's made by Apple, comes in 5 models: the iPod Shuffle, the iPod Classic, the iPod Nano, the iPod Touch and the iPhone.
Take my advice offered in this iPod guide and check to confirm that the iPod model you purchase is one of the newer models.
You may find a cheaper iPod, but it may be an outdated model... most likely not what your child had in mind.
Parent's iPod Guide to Music
Every iPod stores and plays a large amount of digital music.
There are two ways to get music onto your iPod, and neither of them involve going to a music store.
You can buy music off the internet, and then download it onto your iPod using iTunes... very simple; your kids can download a whole list of music in less than 5 minutes... or you burn music from a CD onto your iPod.
The benefit of having an iPod is that you can pick the exact songs you want and download them, without having to purchase an entire CD.
You'll save a lot of money in the long run, and you'll ultimately have a collection of all of your favorite songs.
And purchasing songs for your iPod costs the same, regardless if you have an iPod Classic or an iPhone.
Parent's iPod Guide to Features
All of the iPods... with the exception of the Shuffle... allow you to store and play videos, like music videos, TV shows and even movies.
You can also download Podcasts, which are like radio shows, and these are free.
And you can download audio books onto your iPod as well. And with the iPod Touch and the iPhone you can download and play quality video games.
Parent's iPod Guide to Different Models
So what's the difference between the iPod models?
The main difference is how much you can store on the player, and how many extra features it has.
Basically, the more storage the player has, the more music you can store and the more money it is going to cost.
Here's what you need to know...
iPod Shuffle
iPod's Shuffle has 1GB or 2GB of storage, which holds about 240 songs. It costs around $50.

You are a genius, I thought I had downloaded iTunes 7... I didn't have to reset, everything came up as was
on it when it crashed.
I cannot thank you enough for not giving up, this one had sentimental value that you cannot believe and they
do not make the black nanos anymore.
I tried everything on the internet, and you are the only one that replied and kept at it until you solved the
problem.
Thank you.

Wow Daniel! What a fantastic service. I really didn't expect such a prompt response, if at all. And
thanks for your advice. I certainly will be downloading from the sites you have listed. We are bathing in
summer heat here, whilst I guess you are sheltering from the approaching winter. As a student it is not
unusual to work through the night and I must say, how fantastic it is to have music all night. And such excellent
quality sound too. So thrilled to have iPod up and running!
Thanks again.
Ciao
