Transferred iTunes library and everything duplicated. Help!
by VictoriaSF
Question: Hi, I have about 5,000 songs in my iTunes library. I bought a new computer a few days ago and I had my old hard drive installed as a second drive on my new computer. Both computers are PC. The new computer is Vista. I copied my songs from the old hard drive to the music folder on the new computer's main C drive. I thought I would keep the library on the old drive as a backup. My old songs all imported perfectly. I then bought 5-6 new albums from iTunes. Then iTunes asked if I wanted to organize my music and find all music on my computer. I said yes and suddenly I have 2-3 duplicates of every single song. My library is now 13,000 songs. What can I do? If I reinstall iTunes, won't the same thing happen again? I need to maintain the new albums I just bought and deal with the duplicates. Thanks for your help. Answer: Hi Victoria, I suggest you you make backup of your songs you purchased from iTunes store, delete and install a new iTunes. After installation transfer your songs from the old computer to the new computer but check 'No' when iTunes asks to organize your music for you. Daniel Dwase

You are a genius, I thought I had downloaded iTunes 7... I didn't have to reset, everything came up as was
on it when it crashed.
I cannot thank you enough for not giving up, this one had sentimental value that you cannot believe and they
do not make the black nanos anymore.
I tried everything on the internet, and you are the only one that replied and kept at it until you solved the
problem.
Wow Daniel! What a fantastic service. I really didn't expect such a prompt response, if at all. And
thanks for your advice. I certainly will be downloading from the sites you have listed. We are bathing in
summer heat here, whilst I guess you are sheltering from the approaching winter. As a student it is not
unusual to work through the night and I must say, how fantastic it is to have music all night. And such excellent
quality sound too. So thrilled to have iPod up and running!
